Who We Are?
My name is Daniella Bendo, I am a Ph.D. Candidate in the Law and Legal Studies Program at Carleton University in Ottawa, ON, CA. My background, education and experience to date in the field of Child and Youth Studies has helped contribute to the development of Unique Baby Boutique.
As an advocate for children and youth, I have spent over 7 years studying, researching, and working with young people. With this in mind, Unique Baby Boutique proudly supports Children's Rights Initiatives. While our business has been founded on providing unique, top-quality baby goods and apparel for our customers and little ones, it is also premised on valuing children’s uniqueness and supporting their human rights.
With every purchase, 10% of profits will be donated to organizations that support Children's Rights Initiatives.
Considering children will shape today and tomorrow's future, it is important to support these initiatives. At the same time, customers can show their love and welcome those new little ones to the world by investing in top-quality baby goods!
We value and appreciate your support.
How We Got Here
This is my story and how it has led to the development of our company, Unique Baby Boutique.
In 2010, I started my undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Studies with hopes that I would find a meaningful and passion-filled career path. During this time, I started working in different child-service delivery systems including positions as a Before and After school Teacher, a Youth Employment Counsellor, a Recreational Program Director, a Family Visit Worker, and a Supervised Access Facilitator at The Children’s Aid Society.
While I enjoyed many of these positions, I did not truly discover my passion until I stumbled into a Children’s Rights class during my final year. This class changed my life and opened my eyes to the fact that I had never once been taught that all children in all countries, have rights. I learned that this was not just an idea but a legally-binding commitment that over 197 nations have agreed to by ratifying the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989; the most ratified human-rights treaty in the world.
The fact that all young people have rights is not one that is often talked about, taught in primary or secondary education, or adequately implemented in policy. Not only did I learn about this area theoretically but I watched it unfold practically in the different sectors I worked. As a result, I started researching the area and pursued a Master’s degree in Child and Youth Studies. Over the past 7 years, I have discovered my passion for Children's Rights and Advocacy which continues to be a driving force for the research I conduct as a Doctoral Candidate.
Now to get down to business, it only seemed right to start a company that could in some way support children and their rights. Unique Baby Boutique has been founded with the sole intent to educate and share knowledge about children's rights to our customers while also supporting relevant initiatives and providing beautiful products for you and your little ones to enjoy. It is our goal to promote child-rights awareness and advocate with and for young people.
